When Gail went on her recent trip to New Zealand she came across some lovely quirky needlepoint postcards by Jennifer Pudney which we have decided to stock on www.squidgystuff.co.uk
Each postcard measures 6" x 4" so they don't take a long time to complete. We have eight coming onto the site very soon and are will worth a look at, the colours and subject matter are fab.

Sunny Days

All excitement is breaking out at squidgy, Gail has come back from a break and is refreshed and bustling with inspiration, and I'm riding the wave.... We are looking at new kits for www.squidgystuff.co.uk and are in the process of trying them out, what can be nicer on a sunny day than to be sitting in your favorite spot with your chosen craft.

Its also great weather for getting out and taking time to look at the environment around you and gathering ideas for a summer project, the early blossoms and fresh greens are here along with more yellow dandilions than I have ever seen! and soon there will be more colour and texture around than we could ever use.

External Verifier’s Visit

As a C&G centre we have a yearly visit from our external verifier, Rhonda Fraser. This year the date has been confirmed as the 6th July. For those wishing to submit work for this, its important that we have seen by the second week in May, as usual.

New craft programme

Just heard today that Kirsty Allsop from TV's Location, Location, Location is filming a new series about crafting in the home. Apparently she is doing up a house using various craft techniques to decorate it. Kirsty is a well known craft enthusiast, so it should be well worth watching when it comes onto our screens later on in the year.

My new hobby

Hi its marj this time, I've just bought a book about making jewelry from found objects and its fab! i'm inspired. My father used to make jewelry with gold wire as a hobby and then when he was saving to get married he took a stall in New Brighton by the seaside and sat making personalised jewelry for tourists. Ive been searching through all my bits and bobs and am going to do a bit of recycling and make something incorporating some textile (while Gail goes to the gym!).... marj

Awful Weather

What a horrible day! The weather is slushy and cold - I have promised myself faithfully that I'll go to the gym after lunch today, but my resolve is slipping - does anyone out there go regularly and have any tips for keeping up the pace?

Miserable grey day - I've spent most of it cataloguing data and its been soooooooooo long.
Must get onto inviting the other tutors so that everyone can have a change of author. If anyone else fancies authoring too, let me know.

C&G Tutors

I've been thinking that I'd invite some of the other tutors from SST to contribute to this blog.

It then struck me that a blog for all C&G textile tutors could be a really good idea. I know that locally many colleges have given up offering these C&G courses and it can be really hard to find other tutors to speak with, benchmark work with etc.....kinda lonely really! I really think C&G should provide a site or another method of doing this themselves - but as they don't is there anyone out there who thinks this could be a good idea ? If you do drop me a line at info@sofst.org and we could maybe sort something out.

Well we've finally got to grips with the Camtasia software for a OneFile introduction and, whilst there are a couple of shaky bits, I think its still alot better than nothing. Hopefully you'll agree? Steve has kindly put it onto the site for us almost instantly and its available to watch at video link. If you get a chance I'd love to know what you think.

Also available for download from the site is the November newsletter. We're planning one for each month and we'd love to be emailed any contributions or info that you think should go into it. Again download link is newsletter pdf

It's a cold, grey day here in the UK and whilst its now going dark at 4.30pm (it'll be 3.30 tomorrow once the clocks go back) its never actually been light........

New Blog - first posting

Well this is the second time I've set up a blog - but I'm not sure I remebered too much! Still I guess its up and functioning now.

Busy week here at the office, as we're preparing a newsletter in the office to be distributed tomorrow, and also a video for use by our online students...............I also have a paper to finish on generic eportfolio solutions. If that sounds kinda dry ....it probably is, sorry!

Spent most of the day today staring at a screen .............its a beautiful day outside, so it would be nice to spend a little time in the garden after work today. Still haven't planted out the winter bedding plants yet.
